Write for us

Open News Collective welcomes clear, original pitches about how news is selected, edited, produced, presented or distributed. A useful contribution explains a concrete process or choice without assuming the reader already knows newsroom shorthand.

What fits

We are interested in focused explanations, comparisons and historical context about news publishing. A strong idea might clarify how two formats serve different purposes, unpack a particular editorial handoff or trace how a publishing convention took shape. Keep the subject distinct from general media commentary unless the connection to news production is specific.

What to include

Send a short proposal through the Contact page. State the central question, the main point you expect readers to take away and why the subject fits Open News Collective. Mention the kind of material your piece would rely on and any important limits or uncertainties. A concise outline is welcome; a finished article is not required for an initial pitch.

Before you send

Pitches should be original, clearly scoped and written for general readers. Avoid unsupported claims, promotional copy and ideas that depend on confidential information or access you cannot share. Tell us if the proposal has been sent elsewhere or involves a relevant commercial relationship. Sending an idea does not guarantee publication.

Our approach

News is made through choices

Those choices affect what readers see first, what gets explained and what may be missed. We make the process easier to examine without treating any format as neutral by default.
