Editorial policy
Open News Collective aims to explain news publishing accurately and independently. We distinguish description from judgement, correct errors openly and make commercial relationships visible to readers.
Accuracy and context
We check names, terms and factual claims against the material available to us before publication, and we revise wording that overstates what that material supports. Articles should give enough context for readers to follow the point, rather than relying on a striking phrase to do the work of an explanation. We do not claim that an account is complete when relevant uncertainty remains.
Independence
Editorial decisions are made for the publication's subject and readers, not to deliver a favourable mention to a partner. A commercial relationship does not buy control over independent editorial coverage. If a relationship could reasonably affect how a piece is read, that connection should be disclosed plainly.
Corrections
Readers can send a correction through the Contact page. Please identify the article and the point in question, and provide a clear explanation of what should change. We review credible reports and correct substantive errors in the article; where useful, we explain the correction so readers can see what changed. We do not silently preserve a known material error.
Partner material and illustrations
Material produced in collaboration with a partner is labelled so readers can distinguish it from independent editorial work. Partner placements are identified where they appear, not hidden behind general wording. Some illustrations may be generated with AI; when that is the case, the illustration is labelled. Illustrations are not evidence for factual claims.
News is made through choices
Those choices affect what readers see first, what gets explained and what may be missed. We make the process easier to examine without treating any format as neutral by default.
